Eco Living

Bespoke’s philosophy has always been geared toward achieving environmental sustainability and responsibility through energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials.

Timber framed buildings are inherently more ecologically justifiable than traditionally built buildings. Wood is a natural accumulator of carbon from the environment but, when burnt or allowed to biodegrade, the carbon it has accumulated is released back into the environment. By using wood in the construction of a building, the wood itself is preserved and effectively ‘locks in’ its accumulated carbon. The wood we use for the construction of our products is from sustainable sources.

Whilst the use of wood in the construction of a building is an excellent start, there are many more ways in which a building can make use of ecologically sustainable and energy efficient principles. In the past, the available technology has been either prohibitively expensive or insufficiently practical to justify its use in our products, however, we now consider that many of its elements are sufficiently developed to enable us to produce a viable product which embodies our philosophy.

With this in mind we have developed our Eco Living product – a product which embodies sound ecological principles in combination with heating and energy efficiency in a unique and contemporary package to create stylish and environmentally responsible living accommodation. In addition to its inherent ecological principles and advantages we are able to offer the Eco Living concept with a choice of further energy efficient or ecological features – from power-producing photovoltaic panels and wind-generator technologies to anti-allergenic floor coverings and interiors.

Each Eco Living unit is supplied on a single 14’ width chassis and complies with applicable caravan legislation for non-permanent development. Not only does this provide planning advantages (an Eco Living unit can be installed in your garden within the ‘curtilage’ of your own home without, generally requiring planning permission) but it also means that it can be installed on site without requiring foundations and therefore has significantly less impact on the environment.

As can be seen from the photographs on this section of our website, the Eco Living unit features a flat, living ‘seddum’ roof, large double-glazed window areas, and underfloor heating. It is heavily insulated, requiring less energy to heat in winter and offering cool interior temperatures in summer.
